Sir Gervase Chevenix-Gore suspects he is the victim of fraud, and contacts Hercule Poirot. The host's failure to answer the dinner gong leads to the discovery of his body in the study. A gun, a shattered mirror - the inference is suicide until Poirot begins his investigation.
