The Dark Tower and Other Stories

C.S. Lewis's reputation as a religious writer is rivaled by his skill as a writer of fiction, to which the interplanetary trilogy and the seven <i>Chronicles of Narnia</i> bear witness. The present volume collects all of his shorter fiction: <i>The Dark Tower</i> and "The Man Born Blind" - previously unpublished - as well as four other stories. <p><i>The Dark Tower</i>, an eerie, highly entertaining fragment of a novel, finds five men gathered secretly in a room at Cambridge University to witness the workings of the chronoscope, an invention that "does to time what the telescope does to space." The resulting sequence of bizarre events involves Dr. Elwin Ransom, familiar to readers of Lewis's <i>Out of the Silent Planet</i>. "The Man Born Blind," a short story, dramatizes the relationship between appearance and reality.
