Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston ,Massachusetts in 1809. <br> His university and Army career were short lived and he began to work for various periodicals and journals . It was in these periodicals that Poe began to develop his literary style. <br> His works often dealt with mystery and the macabre ,although he is now acknowledged as one of the pioneers of the Detective fiction and Science Fiction genres. <br> Although in his lifetime he did have some success with his short stories and poems, these did not provide a steady income and he faced financial difficulties for the rest of his life. <br> On October 3rd 1849 Poe was found delirious on the streets of Baltimore and died a few days later. <br> Towards the end of the 19th Century, Poe’s fame began to grow not just in the United States but around the world. <br> He is now seen as the master of the macabre and his short stories acknowledged as classics in their genre. <br> His poetry has steadily been appreciated by millions especially The Raven, Eldorado and Annabel Lee.
