Rue Morgue Redux

Edgar Allan Poe, Niel Munro

Overview

The original Murders in the Rue Morgue was written by Edgar Allan Poe who is rightly acknowledged to have set the rules for an entire genre of detective fiction: the genius detective and his sidekick, the locked room mystery, ciphers, royal spies and the rigorous logic of arm-chair detection. The original story is set in Paris at the turn of the 20th century. We follow the attempt of August Dupin and the police to solve a particularly grizzly crime. Multi-talented and long time CBC friend Neil Munro has stayed close to the original story but has adapted this first-ever detective story to a setting in Toronto, on New Year's Eve, 1889. Solving the murders still requires co-operation between the French and English Inspectors, Dupin and Hudson and the surprising twists and turns are still there. If you haven't heard this story, don't miss this!
