The narrator remains unnamed in this classic tale by Edgar Allan Poe. He goes to the House of Usher, a ghoulish menacing mansion owned by Roderick Usher, his childhood friend. Usher has fallen ill, mental disease, and has asked his friend to come and help him. The tale takes the reader through several days during which Usher’s sister dies. The story becomes more and more haunting as the days go by finally climaxing in a scene of sheer terror. Poe is among the most influential and brilliant authors of classic literature and the macabre and his tales never fail to entertain.
