Had she not died at the tender age of 41, Persuasion certainly wouldn't stand as Jane Austen's last completed novel. Published in 1818, the year after she died, Persuasion broke new ground for Austen, primarily because its central character, Anne Elliot, is well past her youth and unmarried. Breaking off her engagement because he was ambitious but poor, she runs into her one-time fiancé several years later.
