Persuasion (1818) is Jane Austenss last novel written. The work deals with the major social issues of that time, predominantly class-prejudice as well as mercenary and hypocritical attitudes. The novel opens eight years after Anne Elliott broke all ties with Captain Wentworth, a naval officer, after being persuaded that it was in everybody's best interest.
