Carry Your Shoes and Come

Michael Lewis Owen

Overview

Fr Sean Deegan writes in 'Africa' magazine: "Carry Your Shoes and Come is like a box of rich chocolates. Eating them all at one sitting might prevent us savouring the taste of each one. It can be dipped into whenever one feels disorientated, because 'Deep down you know, don't you?' (page 15) It will illuminate dark steps on the road."

Here are one hundred and two poems reflecting on the Old and New Testaments. We begin with God the Father but soon arrive at Advent, Christmas and the boyhood of Jesus. There are pieces on miracles and the conversion of sinners. There is a section on Holy Week, Easter, the Ascension and Pentecost. There are twenty mindfulness poems and a number that are prayers. Each poem is based on a close reading of a passage from scripture.

Editor Ann Tegwen Hughes writes:
There is guidance and hope here in this book. The final sections, suggest ways of being mindful, of using prayer and meditation, of heeding warnings, but ultimately, greeting the sun into our lives. It shows us ways of treading paths carefully, however rough or smooth, wide or narrow they may be, so that we may improve our own lives and those of others too.
