Roberts, Nora

Overview

Product Description
When Dora Conroy, a Philadelphia antiques dealer, purchases a curious selection of auction items - objects she judges to be humorous novelties, she unknowingly becomes the deadly focus of an international smuggler. When robberies and death surround her merchandise, Dora seeks help from her intriguing upstairs tenant, former cop Jed Skimmerhorn. They discover a shadowy path leading across the continent to the smuggler, a man who will stop at nothing to recover his hidden riches. Like the treasures he craves, Dora and Jed find they are susceptible to his crushing grasp.
From Library Journal
Dora, a dealer of antiques, purchases a new selection of curios to sell in her shop. The shipment she receives, however, is intended for a ruthless smuggler of priceless treasures who will do anything-even kill-for the return of the items. Robbery and death surround the curios, and Dora and former cop Jed probe the mystery, touched by their growing attraction for each other. This is a fine story with a well-paced plot and interesting scenery. The relationship between Jed and Dora is often humorous and occasionally steamy as the two protagonists grow closer. Although some of the characters are stereotypical, this latest from the author of Honest Illusions (Audio Reviews, LJ 6/1/93) is a satisfying, comfortable listening experience. Narrator Sandra Burr brings the story to life with a creative assortment of voices. This is an excellent addition to any fiction collection.

Susan B. She is also the author of the bestselling futuristic suspense series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. Roberts has more than 400 million copies of her books in print.
From AudioFile
Suspense and romance begin when Dora buys art at an auction. Dora's new tenant, Jed, comes to her defense during a break-in and gets more than he bargains for. Sandra Burr easily highlights each character with distinctive voices. Lighthearted banter between Dora and Jed, at times turning to sarcasm, is well read. Burr's voices for Dora's parents, actors who have a flair for the dramatic, are never strained or overdone. Descriptive writing and natural, easy-going presentations bring images of characters quickly and easily to mind. C.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
