The Mysterious Affair at Styles
Details
Emily Inglethorp, elderly stepmother to and financial supporter of the Cavendish brothers apparently has been poisoned. No one doubts that it is murder, and few doubt that the perpetrator is her new, and much younger, husband. Scotland Yard is certain its detectives have all the evidence they need. Enter Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie’s enigmatic master detective. Poirot is a small man, fussy about his appearance. Retired from official police work, he is a Belgian World War I refugee living in England. His reputation has preceded him. This case requires that he draw on all the skills that have earned that reputation. The clues are many—perhaps too many, but Poirot carefully works his magic, leading to (as one might expect) a surprising resolution.
