This is the third edition of Emerging and Exotic Diseases of Animals, published by Iowa State University, Institute for International Cooperation in Animal Biologies. In addition to updated overview chapters, a new chapter on the role of response teams in animal health emergencies, and updated fact sheets for 81 diseases, we are pleased to add 261 annotated images for 36 important animal diseases. The purpose of this book is to provide veterinarians and veterinary students with an overview of exotic (foreign) and emerging animal diseases, their methods of introduction and spread, and the role of local, state, federal and international agencies in control of these diseases. It is also meant to serve as a ready source for information. Because these diseases either do not exist in North America, or are rare, veterinarians have had little exposure to them and may not be familiar with their important characteristic. The disease fact sheets have a standard outline so that critical information related to the diseases can be found quickly.
