Animal Farm
Details
Animal Farm, a political fable based on the story of the Russian Revolution, is probably Orwell’s finest work, full of wit and fantasy. It was published in England in 1945 and one year later in the United States. Even though his previous works had rather good circulation in the UK and USA, Animal Farm enormously increased the circulation of his works. In his Burmese Days Orwell used his experiences when hi served in Imperial Police in Burma. In Down and Out in Paris and London (1933) he describes his experiences about the ‘underworld’. In his Homage to Catalonia, he has criticized official communist policies and practices. George Orwell’s works had been translated into different languages-translations into all the principal European languages as well as Persian, Telugu, Icelandic and Ukrainia. Animal Farm had something different from his all other works, and this work’s title page had its own peculiar differences. He called his book Animal A Fairy Story. According to Orwell, this novel was ‘primarily a satire on the Russian Revolution’ it was intended to have a wider application. That kind of revolution, which he defined a ‘violent conspiratorial revolution led by unconsciously power-hungry people’, could only lead to a change of masters. This description also got the importance in those days. This was the description given in all editions published by some eminent publishers but the Americans dropped A Fairy Story from the outset.
