Northanger Abbey
Details
Catherine Morland is a naive seventeen-year-old girl whose view of life beyond Fullerton village is influenced by the world of gothic novels she reads so avidly. Unfortunately, this proves to be a very poor preparation for understanding the comic machinations she experiences during a visit to Bath. Catherine’s confusion between fact and fiction reached a high point whilst spending time at Northanger Abbey. There, Catherine indulges herself in remarkablle flights of fantasy before realising her foolishness. However, the question remains, had her new grasp on reality arrived too late? Although this was the first of Austen’s full-length novels, written in 1808, her brother re-named the work and published it only after her death in 1817. Nevertheless, Northanger Abbey has enthralled readers since that time as a masterful parody of the immensely popular gothic fiction genre. This edition is ideally suited to readers who prefer both a larger font size and also wider margins for making personal notes. As a result, these enhancements will be particularly useful for students whilst also benefiting anyone who experiences reading difficulties, including dyslexia.
