Persuasion is the last novel fully completed by Jane Austen. The story follows Anne Elliot who at twenty had been engaged to Navy Captain Frederick Wentworth. The engagement, however, was broken when Anne was "persuaded" by her friends and family to end the relationship. The story begins seven years after the broken engagement when Anne and Captain Wentworth meet again, both single and unattached.
