When Jenny Jakes accompanies her mother, a famous mystery writer, to San Antonio for the weekend, they expect it will be interesting since their millionaire cousin, Arnold Harmony, plans to have his will read to the relatives and employees he's gathered together. Then Harmony's son is murdered just before the reading, and Jenny's mother decides to spring into action as a real-life detective. Jenny knows that writing a mystery is a far cry from actually solving a crime. It's up to her to use her wits, not only to save her mother's reputation, but also to keep herself, and those she's enlisted to help, from being killed.
