African Trauma Therapy

African Trauma Therapy Dave Starhawk Romain

info Details

The current volume deals with the roots of colonialism and its post-colonial aftermath. Much has been written about slavery, but very few books on the market, delve into the laws that propagated African enslavement for the physical, psychological and economic benefit of Europeans as well as the penchant of some people on earth for global genocides and the stealing of the lands of indigenous cultures. This work dives deeply into the facts of African depersonalization and the trauma currently borne by the African diaspora. Our story is not the story of the "black" race or "Negroes" which is just another term for black. This is not the story of how African slaves were freed by the thrust of well-meaning Abolitionists and the American Civil War. This is the story of how Africa was robbed of her people; of how we bore the world on our backs, in the houses and fields. And of how some Africans were robbed of culture, name, and identity. This is the story of genocide; of African Art held hostage in global museums, of stolen African gold in Royal coffers and of modern corporations that benefited from the Transatlantic Slave Trade, both then and now. It is the story of how Africans won their freedom by enduring 400 years of slavery. NO. Africans weren't freed by any well-meaning persons. They were freed because they endured genocide, degradation and depersonalization longer than any other people in history and are still dealing with the aftermath and legacy of that. If you aren't African or Indigenous, you might not realize how devastatingly destructive Slavery was. Did I was? Rather, is. As an African person, I live with its aftermath, every minute of every day. And so too, do others. Therefore, this work attempts a task that many would realize is beyond the range of one person to handle. This is the Christian fable of David and Goliath with my existential connection to the Elohim a stand-in for the god of the myth. This battle, though, is taking place in real-time, on a global plane, and on an unprecedented level.
